The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts is a sanctuary for lovers of both art and horticulture. The museum is home to over one thousand works of art, including paintings, sculptures, textiles, and much more. In the heart of the museum, the building’s courtyard blossoms with an equally impressive collection of lush plant life.
I visited Boston over the summer, and the Gardner Museum stands out as one of the most impactful parts of my trip. As an artist and flower enthusiast, I was immediately enthralled by the beauty and abundance of the space. The art displays were incredibly inspiring, but what I reminisce about the most is the courtyard garden.
Thus, the following watercolor sketches are a study of the Gardner Museum’s flora and how the interaction between plants and architecture is its own form of art.
