My inspiration for this piece came from my fascination with tide pools. Within these tide pools, you can find all sorts of critters, one of them being the sea slug. These vibrant creatures display colors that serve as a toxicity warning to predators that roam the ocean.
The medium I chose to use is clay and glaze. I shaped the slugs into the various forms that sea slugs can take, glazing them in vibrant colors. For the base of the clay body, I shaped it to be bulbous, almost gourd-like, with four naturally flowing arms. I then glazed the piece with Mayco Toasted Almond, which fired to an almost matte finish.
